With their expansion draft complete and the process of building their team underway, San Diego FC has given players a look at what they’ll be wearing when they take the pitch in March.
The Major League Soccer expansion franchise unveiled their inaugural home kits on Friday, December 13, as part of weekend-long celebrations.
The kits uses the current Adidas jersey template, with tapering side panels swooping up each side. In San Diego FC’s case, those side panels fade from light blue at the hem to red at the top — mirroring part of the gradient found in the outline of the team’s crest — on a navy blue “azul” base that “captures the boundless horizon where the ocean meets the sky, highlighting the beauty of San Diego’s coastal regions.”
“San Diego FC’s inaugural jersey is a tribute to our community’s depth, richness and diversity. With an Azul base and Chrome details, the colors of San Diego’s diverse culture shine through the sides and back. This clean and elegant jersey, with a twist, captures the essence of every corner of San Diego, woven into one.”

San Diego FC unveiled their name and crest back in October 2023. It was designed by Costa Rican firm Pupila, who also redesigned the crest for the Costa Rican national team. According to the explainers tweeted out by the club at the time, the large arched “SAN DIEGO” text at the top of the shield represents how “we put our community first” and is “inspired by the shape of the famous arches and signs across San Diego.” The central circular part of the crest is dubbed “The Flow,” which “symbolizes how we perform at a peak level while embracing our unique rhythm of life.” The 18 lines represent the 18 communities of San Diego, “woven into one.”
The Adidas shoulder stripes and the sponsor logos on the chest of the home kit are metallic chrome, again mirroring the club crest and “[shining] as a reflection of the city’s vibrant communities.” Communications company DIRECTV has signed on as San Diego FC’s front-of-shirt sponsor.
In the jock tag position near the hem on the front of the jersey is an “SD” monogram with “CHROME” written out overtop, “AZUL” underneath and lines connecting the two words.
A cursive “State of Flow” wordmark logo adorns the back collar, “emphasizing the way of life that best describes the essence of San Diego.” Metallic chrome names and numbers are printed on the back in MLS’s standard font.
“Few moments are as special as the unveiling of a football club’s inaugural kit! Special thanks to our valued partner DIRECTV, which we proudly wear across our heart,” SDFC CEO Tom Penn said in a news release. “This kit embodies the spirit of our Club and the pride of our city, and we can’t wait to see our players and fans in Chrome & Azul as we kick off our first-ever MLS season in February.”
The jersey was paired with navy blue shorts and socks in Friday’s launch material.
While the full 2025 MLS regular season schedule hasn’t yet been released, San Diego FC are already advertising their inaugural home match for Saturday, March 1, against St. Louis City FC. They’ll play their home matches at Snapdragon Stadium on the campus of San Diego State University.
