QMJHL’s Charlottetown Islanders to Sport Rad ‘Mighty Ducks’-Inspired Jerseys for 90s Night – SportsLogos.Net News

The Charlottetown Islanders are throwing things back to the 1990s with jerseys inspired by one of the most beloved kids’ movies of the decade.

On Wednesday, January 15, the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League club based on Prince Edward Island unveiled their jerseys for 90s Night, which will take place when they host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Saturday, January 18. The jerseys are based on those worn in The Mighty Ducks, the 1992 film starring Emilio Estevez that spurred kids to try out triple dekes and knuckle pucks on their local rinks.

Like the jerseys in the movie, the Islanders’ 90s Night jerseys are mostly green, with black, purple and yellow striping on the shoulders, waist and collar.

The front of the jersey features a snarling, hockey-playing sea captain — not unlike the New York Islanders’ infamous fisherman logo from a bit later in the 1990s — wearing a yellow rain coat and hat, white gloves and yellow socks. There’s a little bit of jersey inception here, as the sea captain is wearing a Charlottetown Islanders jersey under his rain slicker. Under the captain is an arched “ISLANDERS” wordmark in yellow with purple, black and white outlines.

Unfortunately, none of the photos the Islanders posted to social media this week gave a clear look at the sleeve striping, though it’s likely there won’t be any as there is none on the jerseys in the movie (see photo below). The Islanders’ photos also didn’t clearly show how names or numbers on the sleeves and back would look.

Along with the jerseys, the Islanders are encouraging fans to wear their best ’90s-themed outfits to Saturday’s game for the chance to win prizes.

Fans can get hands on one of the 90s Night jerseys through an online auction that closes on January 27.
