Jake Cronenworth drove in the decisive run to lift the visiting San Diego Padres past the St. Louis Cardinals 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Manny Machado hit a home run as the Padres won for the fourth time in five games. Luis Arraez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run.

Padres starter Dylan Cease allowed four runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked four. Yuki Matsui (4-2) got the victory and Tanner Scott claimed his 20th save.

Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer for the Cardinals, who lost for the third time in four games.

Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas allowed four runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one. Reliever John King (3-3) took the loss.

In the Cardinals’ first inning, Masyn Winn hit a single, went to third on Alec Burleson’s double and scored on a wild pitch. Burleson later scored on Luken Baker’s sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

The Padres surged ahead 4-2 in the second inning.

Machado hit his homer to start the comeback. Jackson Merrill hit a double, David Peralta followed with a single, then Luis Campusano hit an RBI single, Mason McCoy hit a run-scoring groundout and Arraez hit an RBI single.

The Cardinals loaded the bases in the second and third innings, but Cease escaped both jams unscathed.

St. Louis took a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning. Brendan Donovan singled, took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Lars Nootbaar’s single.

Bryan Hoeing relieved Cease and allowed Goldschmidt’s two-run homer.

The Padres regained the lead, 6-5, in the seventh inning. McCoy walked, Arraez hit a single, then San Diego executed a double steal to set up Jurickson Profar’s sacrifice fly.

Cronenworth followed with his go-ahead RBI single.

The Padres made it 7-5 in the ninth inning when McCoy doubled, advanced on a flyout and scored on a wild pitch.
