Karan Johar has addressed the controversy surrounding the casting of Alia Bhatt in Vasan Bala’s upcoming film Jigra. The filmmaker faced backlash as netizens alleged that Bala expressed his dissatisfaction in the interview, stating that Johar had sent an incomplete draft of the script to Alia without his consent. This incident sparked debates about nepotism and favouritism in Bollywood.
Reacting to the uproar, Johar took to Instagram, clarifying the situation. He wrote, “I fold my hands and tell everyone, please hear and read entire interviews before making clickbait assumptions.” Johar added that Vasan Bala’s comments were misinterpreted, emphasizing their strong collaboration. “The gore misinterpretation of his comment about me sending the script to Alia without his grammar checks made me laugh initially… but now is truly annoying.”
Johar urged fans and critics to watch Bala’s full interview, where the director mentioned sending a rough, unrefined version of the script to Johar, who then forwarded it to Alia. Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, is slated for release on October 11, 2024.
