In news that comes to almost no Major League Soccer observer’s surprise, the dymanic duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez are once again at the top of the league’s jersey sales list.
The Inter Miami players are No. 1 and No. 2 respectively on the list of the top 25 best-selling jerseys on MLSStore.com from January 1 to August 31, 2024, which the league released on Tuesday, September 17. Messi has topped all three best-selling jersey lists released by MLS since he joined the league in July 2023.
Reigning MLS MVP Luciano Acosta of FC Cincinnati was third in the June 2024 list, but slips to fourth in the latest ranking. Columbus Crew forward Cucho Hernández also moves down one spot, from fourth to fifth. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Football Club forward Denis Bouanga — who was 20th on the September 2023 list and not even in the top 25 in June 2024 — rocketed out of nowhere to claim the No. 3 spot.
Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders lead MLS clubs with four players apiece on the list. A total of 14 clubs and 14 countries are represented on the list, including four members of the United States men’s national team.
Four players on the list are in their first year in MLS: Pedro de la Vega (Seattle), Emil Forsberg (New York Red Bulls), Olivier Giroud (LAFC) and Suárez. Six are under the age of 25.
