The Denver Broncos will wear their “Orange Crush” throwback uniforms for the second and final time this season when they host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday (4:25 p.m. ET on CBS) in a matchup that could determine their playoff fate.
The Broncos reintroduced the 1977-inspired throwback uniforms this offseason alongside a redesign of their home orange, navy blue alternate and white road jerseys and pants, as well as their standard navy blue and white alternate helmets.
They feature royal blue helmets with Denver’s iconic “D” logo in its original colors, orange jerseys with a traditional stripping pattern on the sleeves, white pants with orange and blue stripes down the sides and matching socks.
The Broncos most recently wore the throwback uniforms in a 34-18 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 6, and prior to this season, the last time they were worn was a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Dallas Cowboys in 2001.
In addition to the uniforms, Denver has also painted a throwback-inspired design on the grass at Empower Field at Mile High for Sunday’s game, including the “D” logo at midfield and in the orange end zones alongside a vintage “Broncos” wordmark.
It’ll be just the second time in franchise history that the retro logo appears at the 50-yard line, joining last year’s “snowcapped” field design, though that was in the Broncos’ current navy blue and orange color scheme to match their old Color Rush set.
There was no logo at midfield for the aforementioned win over the Raiders, meanwhile, as Denver painted a simple white “Broncos” wordmark inside of royal blue end zones instead.
