The Canadian Football League’s Montréal Alouettes will truly look the part when they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1974 Grey Cup victory this weekend.

The Alouettes unveiled special uniforms for the occasion on their Facebook and Instagram accounts on the evening of Tuesday, August 20, and they’ll wear them for the anniversary celebration during their game against the Edmonton Elks — the team they beat in the 1974 championship game — on Sunday, August 25.

The uniforms are a modern replica of what the 1974 Alouettes wore when they beat Edmonton 20-7 on a wet field at Empire Stadium in Vancouver. The jerseys are navy blue with red sleeves an white stripes around the shoulders.

Numbers on the front and back are in a white block font, as are the names on the back. There are no TV numbers on the shoulders, but the Alouettes’ primary logo at the time — colloquially referred to as the “delta logo” — appears on the sleeves. The ads on the front of the jersey use the companies’ vintage logos.

The helmets that go with the jerseys are also a reproduction of what the Alouettes wore in 1974. It features the delta logo on the front of the navy blue shell, with the player’s number in white on either side and a grey facemask.

The pants in the set are white with a red stripe flanked by two blue stripes down the sides and the Alouettes’ current primary logo on the right hip. The socks are white.

Game-used retro uniforms will be auctioned off, with bids closing after Saturday’s game. Bids are already open on some of the jerseys on Dash.

Aside from the uniforms, the Alouettes will have alumni of the 1974 team on hand for Sunday’s game, and the first 5,000 fans will receive a commemorative poster.

Kickoff between the Elks and Alouettes is at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, The game will be broadcast on TSN1, TSN3 and TSN4.
