Wukong benchmark tool released on Steam, draws in 80k+ concurrent players – WGB

Email :21

Just one week before the highly anticipated Black Myth: Wukong releases, the game’s developers have released a benchmarking tool on Steam so that people can gauge how well their hardware will handle the game.

The official Steam page says: “We have ensured that benchmark results closely approximate expected performance when playing ‘Black Myth: Wukong’, however, due to the complexity and variability of gaming scenarios, test results may not fully represent the actual gaming experience and final performance at the time of the game’s release.”

“Your benchmark results can assist the development team in better identifying potential software and hardware compatibility issues before the official game launch.”

Amazingly, the tool has drawn in a staggering amount of users. According to SteamBD, the benchmark tool has hit a peak of 83,947 concurrent players since it launched at 2am UTC, August 13. That’s as a write this, so it may climb even higher.

Despite how beautiful the game appears to be, it’s minimum and recommended specs are surprisingly low.

Minimum

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 1600
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 9 GB available space
  • Sound Card: Windows Compatible Audio Device
  • Additional Notes: SSD Recommended. The above specifications were tested with DLSS/FSR/XeSS enabled.

Recommended

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-9700 / AMD Ryzen 5 5500
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / INTEL Arc A750
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 9 GB available space
  • Sound Card: Windows Compatible Audio Device
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required. The above specifications were tested with DLSS/FSR/XeSS enabled.

I personally love this decision to release a benchmarking tool because it’s a very consumer friendly thing to do. Minimum and recommended specifications are helpful, but being able to actually run a test based on the game itself is even more useful in determining how well it’s going to run.

Based on users on Reddit and the Steam page, it seems like the game runs well. Of course, do keep in mind, this tiny snippet could perform a lot differently than the actual full game.
