Atlanta Falcons To Wear 1966 Throwback Uniforms On Sunday – SportsLogos.Net News

The Atlanta Falcons will wear their 1966 throwback uniforms for the third and final time this season during Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, which kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.

The Falcons originally wore these uniforms – which feature red helmets, black jerseys and white pants – from their inception in 1966 until 1990, when they switched to black helmets on a full-time basis. They were also worn as a throwback design from 2009 until the NFL implemented its one-helmet rule in 2013.

Atlanta brought the uniforms back in 2016, but opted to blend two different eras by pairing their standard black helmets and throwback decals with the 1966 jerseys, pants and socks. The league then relaxed the rule in 2022 and allowed the franchise to reintroduce red shells, which feature a stripe that borrows its colors from in-state schools Georgia and Georgia Tech.

The Falcons are 5-2 in the throwback uniforms since the red helmets replaced the 1990s-era design, including a 26-24 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 29 and a 36-30 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following weekend.

The Giants, meanwhile, will wear their standard road uniforms of blue helmets, white jerseys, white pants and red socks on Sunday. They are 2-4 in this design this season, picking up their only two victories of the year at the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 23 and Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 6.
