Nvidia urges people to update GPU drivers due to “high” security risks – WGB

Email :9

Nvidia has published an official bulletin urging people to update their Nvidia graphics cards to the latest drivers in order to be safe from a “vulnerability” that can rate from 7.8-8.2 on Nvidia’s scale, which is enough to rate the risk as “high.”

NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Windows contains a vulnerability in the user mode layer, where an unprivileged regular user can cause an out-of-bounds read,” says the bulletin. “A successful exploit of this vulnerability might lead to code execution, denial of service, escalation of privileges, information disclosure, and data tampering.”

To combat the threat Nvidia has released new updates for its cards, and users should ensure that they are updated. You can do this manually by visiting Nvidia’s drivers page here or you can do it through Nvidia’s own software such as GeForce Experience. Depending on how you have the software set up, your card may have already been updated, but it’s best to double check.

For GeForce GPUs, driver version 565.57.01/550.127.05/535.216.01 will be the newest update available. For RTX, Quadro, and NVS GPUs, the latest is 565.57.01/550.127.05/535.216.01. For Tesla GPUs, driver versions 550.127.05/535.216.01.

Security risks aside, it’s generally a good practice to update your drivers anyway as Nvidia constantly puts out tweaks to aid performance in the latest games.
